Critical Writing

I've been writing about movies online pretty much for time in memoriam, and frequently through a critical lens.

From 2020-2022 I wrote for the online publication FilmBook on a volunteer basis. My first year there I covered industry developments through short news stories – particularly with how the industry was changing due to the COVID-19 pandemic – eventually shifting my focus entirely to film reviews. While there I covered a variety of virtual film festivals, including the 2021 Fantasia International Film Festival, the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, and both the 2021 and 2022 iterations for SXSW, Tribeca, and Locarno. You can find my entire body of work for the site here.

For a time I also contributed to The Phi Effect via written reviews and co-hosting a podcast, the latter wherein we'd discuss a new release and analyze its significance in relation to prior releases via theme, genre, and movement. Years and years ago I also wrote reviews for my university's student-run newspaper, but it's been so long that I can't really vouch for their quality anymore.

Nowadays you can find me rambling into the Letterboxd ether about whatever little oddities I happen to stumble upon.
