I worked for the New Jersey-based touring company Journey Dance Competition as a videographer for their 2025 season. I was responsible for capturing each individual dance routine for the duration of an event, emphasizing the artistry via the camera’s motion but also focusing on clarity and documentation for the dancers’ own reference. I was in charge of running clean video feeds to multiple spots throughout the venue, monitoring an event's livestream, and ensuring proper recording settings and back-ups. During their nationals competitions (i.e. the season finale) I would also use a small switchboard to alternate between additional camera angles on the stage for a bit of variety. The immediacy that the role demanded was invigorating as it developed a sense of hyper-awareness in me that allowed for quick communication in troubleshooting situations.
Below is just one example of the types of videos I would film. A typical weekend during the season would include anywhere between 400-600 of these routines back-to-back over two to three continuous days, so physical and mental endurance was of utmost importance.
